DAISY"S SPECIAL DAY

This week's Senior Hiking Blog is dedicated to Daisy Lazarovits 90th Birthday. She wanted the Club Members to share in her Birthday Celebration and agreed to lead the hike on this special day. 83 participants met at the St. Clair West Station along with 9 Turtles. Alas the Turtles were unable to hike the distance and decided on a shorter route.

Love those Turtles!

The main group entered Cedarvale Park to hear Daisy deliver the itinerary for the day

Larry Haigh was on hand from the Bruce Trail to accept a donation from Daisy. She generously donated $5 for each person completing the hike to the Brickworks

Soon we were off heading north through the Park

Water Break

Leaving the park we made our way to the Beltline crossing the busy Eglinton Avenue along the way

The Beltline offered some respite from the hot sun with it's shady trees

Ann (Spindle Legs) Atkins went ahead to check out our lunch destination, The Forest Hill Memorial Arena

Reaching the outside of the Arena we had lunch and the mandatory pee break

After a full stomach and an empty bladder we soldiered on crossing the Yonge Street Bridge where red ribbons were tied to the bridge for each missing person

Thanks to Ira Greenspoon for this short video showing Daisy in action

Our next port of call was Mt. Pleasant Cemetery

A nice pose

Crossing the busy Moore Avenue we entered into the Moore Park Ravine

Water Break

At the Brickworks the celebrations began

Daisy's daughter provided an array of snacks and refreshments for the group

Daisy & Daughter welcoming everyone

Larry thanks Daisy for her generous donation

I gave Daisy her Birthday Card signed by everyone while Ann presented Daisy with a book (sorry Ann for no photo)

Next we were treated to a "sing song"

Then we sang "Happy Birthday"

Followed by an impromptu dance with Mother & Daughter

Applause from yours truly

Unfortunately the proceedings were too much for Doug

But not for Daisy

Friends from the "Old Country"

Leaving the Brickworks Daisy led us through David Balfour Park where we took our lives in our hands crossing the busy Mt. Pleasant Road

At the Midtown Pub at Yonge and Heath Streets we toasted Daisy. Fortunately we were all served with our drinks before she reached her 91st Birthday!

Enjoying a Spritzer

A rare photo of the Blog Man enjoying a pint with Evelyn

In my excitement I did not commence mapping at the start. I'm confident we covered at least 15 km

I am so pleased that I was able to participate in Daisy's special day. She is truly a remarkable Lady. Without question she's an inspiration to all of us. In today's crazy world it did my heart good to spend   some time away from such turmoil with a very special person. Thank you Daisy. Love You.
