TORONTO ISLANDS (TURTLES)

I decided to join the Turtles Hike today. I'd promised Merel I would join them one day. Having already been on the Hares pre-hike on Monday I thought today would be perfect with the meeting points for both hikes close by

12 Turtles met at the Ferry Terminal for the 11:00 am crossing to Centre Island (not all in photo)

Surprisingly the boat was pretty full with passengers out to enjoy the sunshine

A good day to leave the city behind

It was soon clear as we approached the island that the flooding was quite severe

Setting off but still time to smell the blooms

Our boat returns to the City

More evidence of the flooding

Pausing at the Log Flume

Time to view the animals

These swans are washed-up

Safe height from the floods

Crossing the Bridge to the Avenue of the Islands

Getting some Shade

Making our way to the Boardwalk with Merel leading

Group photo spoilt by the contrast

Nearing our lunch spot

The road has vanished

Relaxing at the Sunshine Centre

Makeshift crossing point

Time to roll up your pants!

Wading to Algonquin Island

Artistic use of the tree stump

Quick trip around Island before heading to the Ferry Dock

Back on the Boardwalk to avoid more paddling

Waiting for the 2:00 pm Ferry

Heading back to the city

Flying around the Tower

Waiting for the Streetcar to Union

I thoroughly enjoyed my day with Merel and the Turtles. They are an integral part of the Club and  are often overshadowed by the main group. They allow our more senior members to continue walking over shorter distances as well for those that are trying to get back into shape after an injury. I'm so pleased to be able to feature them on my Blog

  1. Well said Roger.

We do tend to forget the turtles, and let's face it. We will all be turtles before too long.
