As most of you know High Park has been closed because of the virus and expected crowds to invade the area where the Cherry Trees are. The City has set up a live feed on the internet but I thought I'd share some of the photos I've taken in the past plus give a short history of the Sakura Trees in the Park
In April 1959 the Japanese Ambassador to Canada, Tour-Hagiwara, presented 2,000 Japanese Somei-Yoshino Sakura Trees to the citizens of Toronto on behalf of the citizens of Tokyo. The trees were given in appreciation of Toronto accepting re-located Japanese-Canadians following the Second World War. Many of the trees were planted on the hillside overlooking Grenadier Pond (southwest of the Grenadier Cafe) and around the east shore of the pond. In 1984 , an additional small grove of Japanese Cherry trees were planted along a pathway west of the Children's Adventure Playground (near the Zoo parking lot) The trees were donated by Yoriki and Midori Iwasaki as a special gift to the people of Toronto and "a joyful symbol of life" Through the Consulate General of Japan in Toronto's, "Sakura Project", 34 Yoshino 'Akebono' and Kwanzan 'Fugenzo' Sakura trees were donated in High Park in 2001 and planted on the east shore of Grenadier Pond near the Maple Leaf garden. In 2016 additional Yoshino Sakura Trees were planted near the original 1959 planting site. Plaques commemorating each of the plantings can be found under the Cherry Trees in High Park

"A Rose between two thorns"
This Sunday will be Mother's Day so here's little poem to commemorate all the Mums
A Mother is special, she's more than a friend
Whenever you need her, she'll give you a hand
She'll lead you and guide you in all that you do
Try all that she can just to see you get through
Good times and bad times, she's there for it all
Say head up, be proud and always stand tall
She'll love you through quarrels and even big fights
or heart to heart chats on cold lonely nights
My Mother the greatest that I've ever known
I think God made my Mother like he'd make his own
A praiser, a helper, an encourager too
nothing in this world that she wouldn't do
To help us succeed, she does all that she can,
raised a young boy now a man
I want to say thank you for all that you do
Please always know, Mom, that I love you
